N Candy AA

I have to say, as someone who is utterly clueless about sports, I had a hard time with that acronym the first 100 times I read it. I kept seeing it as a confusing reference to Alcoholics Anonymous.

(How clueless about sports am I? We were watching some kind of Giants game last week and they showed us three guys watching the game together who all had Giants caps on. I chirped, “Those guys have the same hat!” and then thought “What a goofy statement. Of course there will be a lot of people in the bleachers who all have the same hat. They are fans of this team.”

Then my wife said, “Those are the players.”)

The N Candy AA is a fabulous bracket where different kinds of candy play off. It was created by two people I think of as Keckler and Sars, founding stars of Television Without Pity and awesome bloggers and now Keckler’s a food writer and Sars writes about baseball and dances around in a tomato costume… look, I can’t explain people who are on the internet. There’s no “This is Sam in Accounting” anymore. It’s all “This is Pamie. She started out as a blogger before there were really bloggers and then she got to write professionally and now she writes novels and tv shows but also she’s in roller derby and then she helped raise a bunch of money by bribing people with a video of her mom singing Beatles music on Rock Band.”

I mean, I have a candy blog and a weekly mini-cookbook-writing business and a warehouse club for wholesale eco-friendly goods and I’m a case manager helping laid-off auto plant workers get training and figure out what they want to do with the rest of their lives now that their jobs are gone and… I’m probably forgetting a few things. Oh right: a new life coaching business. Internet is crazy, the end. Also, TWOP hasn’t been the same since Keckler stopped recapping Top Chef, there I said it.

BRACKETS. There are candy brackets. Keckler and Sars do them. They are awesome.

And every time they do these things, I feel inspired to go back to writing about candy. Last time, I pretty much got as far as twiddling with the setup and beginning to move it over to WordPress. (From hand-coding each post, which… I am done with.) But this time, I have a job that isn’t draining me emotionally! So it’s only round three (or some such number) and I am already ready to start writing.

So for your amusement, I’m going to try to recap each candy in this round. We’ve got Pez v. Sugar Daddy/Babies and Slo-Poke; Pixy Stix v. Pop Rocks (awesome!!); Pillow Mints (LOVE) v. Tic-Tacs; Nerds v. Bottlecaps; Peeps v. Now & Later; Saltwater Taffy v. Fun Dips; Smarties/SweeTarts v. DumDums; and Rock Candy v. Gobstoppers/Very Large Round Candies of all kinds.

Let the sugar rush begin!
